I was looking up some of the most famous rock guitar solos of all time, you know the names, but you might not know how to play this stuff on your Fender Strat or other type of guitar that you own. So, what to do? Let’s get to the juice, shall we?

I stopped by Digital Dream Door and checked out there 100 Greatest Rock Guitar Solos.

Here are just a couple…

1. Comfortably Numb – David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
2. Stairway To Heaven – Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
3. All Along The Watchtower – Jimi Hendrix
4. Free Bird – Allen Collins (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
5. Maggot Brain – Edie Hazel (Funkadelic)
6. Texas Flood – Stevie Ray Vaughan
7. Eruption – Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
8. Highway Star – Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple)
9. Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers – Jeff Beck

Some of these I agree with, some I do not. I like Pink Floyd and all, but don’t get what all the hype is about. But, that’s just me.

1. The Comfortably Numb Solo

This solo was probably played on a Strat, as Gilmour has been favored to use. For more information his gear and guitar setup for Pink Floyd, go here.

These guys over at freelicks rock, and I suspect that the reason why this solo is a big winner is that most of these chord pickings and chord changes were unique even to Jimmy Page himself. he didn’t usually play like this. And, the solo? It was played on a Telecaster too!

NOTE: Don’t forget parts two and three of that video too.

More of the top solos to come soon.
